I see you ignore bruised limbs, and I see you ignore the dirt, the hot summer air, and everything that dares to stand between you and the game.
To the kids playing cricket on the streets,
I see you pour your heart and soul into a game which is of your own construct. You call it cricket, I agree, but everything from the rules to the bat and the ball are in your control. For someone who has never had interest nor skill to step into the field, I would say that this is exactly how the sport should be. Under control, firmly in our clutches.
I see you ignore bruised limbs, and I see you ignore the dirt, the hot summer air, and everything that dares to stand between you and the game. I see passion and it leaves me awestruck. For someone who's never played the sport, I envy the bond that all of you share.
I see you leap with joy, when there's victory, and crumble as if the world came crashing down upon you, when there's loss. Sportsmanship is at it's zenith when all of you are playing. For someone who's never been able to play it well, it was this spirit that made me try again and again.
There are so many of you, on the streets, in the parks, in the porches, everywhere. All of you unite heaven and hell to taste victory, and despite there being a winner and a loser, I see all of you head back home filled with pride. This is for every MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, and Sachin Tendulkar out there. This is for the sport that unites us. This is for cricket.
